Week-End Finds

My mom and I spent Sunday morning visiting garage sales. I think I had a pretty good morning. I've been searching for pieces for my sister's apartment and I found this chandelier for $5.  I'm thinking of converting it like I did my office chandelier.

This table was also $5.00.  It will definitely get some kind of paint treatment and may be a nice addition to my sister's place.

I need to text her to check out my post today, so she can see what's going in her apartment.  It must be nice to have a personal shopper :)

Week-End Finds & Pillow Update

I haven't done a week-end finds in a couple of weeks. It seems my chaotic work schedule has gotten the best of me. Luckily, summer is almost here. I need the break so bad! I joined a gym yesterday, hoping for some stress relief. I was always an exerciser, until my crazy baby making issues started 5 years ago. I've decided to get my life back and get myself in some kind of shape for the summer. I haven't stepped foot in a gym in 5 years...wow!  It should be interesting.  Well, onto my finds, I found this little print for $2.00 at a garage sale a while back and had forgotten about it.  In trying to update my new corner of the family room, a light bulb went off.  I love the mod vintage feel it has.

I think the print goes with my new mid century inspired pillows that came in last week.  They are beautifully made and I LOVE them!  Mia and Stitch sent me a cute little surprise with my pillow. So sweet. 

I will be replacing the long damask pillow from CB2 in my family room.  I've been slowly incorporating some mid century pieces and wanted the pillows to follow suit. 

Now, to continue on my ever evolving home.  Is that normal?  I just redid my family room in November.  

Week-End Finds

My sister and I went to a couple of garage sales on Saturday on the way to West Elm.  Although on Spring Break last week, I really didn't make it out to the thrift stores.  I spent a lot of time cleaning out closets in my house and figured, if I'm trying to simplify my life, I don't need any more junk.  I couldn't pass up this stool for $2.00 at a garage sale. I know, I know, another stool/bench. I realize that it's a little weird, but it's so not intentional, I promise.  I have to figure out what I'm going to do with this one.

So just to add to the stool mania in my house, I found these in my laundry room.  Does that count as a "found object"?  When I show you pictures of my laundry room, you will understand my question.  These stools were bought as temporary stools for our kitchen when we first did our kitchen.  It took me a while to find the perfect white, modern stools back 5-6 years ago.  Our kitchen island only has room for 2 stools and we keep these around for when guests come over to add around the island for casual pre meal conversation.  They've come in very handy.

 However, they are in horrible shape and do not match my kitchen at all. 

So that's nothing a can of spray paint can't fix.  I gave them a very light sanding, used primer, and white spray paint to finish it off. 

 Major difference.

I have a question for all you spray paint experts out there, the top of the stools ended up looking uneven and rough, what am I doing wrong?

Week-End Finds

This week I found some MORE accessories.  I've already figured out what I want to do with them. I am very excited about these projects.

I found this at Goodwill for $4.00.  It has some horrible sponging and flower detailing that will be eliminated.

I remember a while back Michelle from Three Men & a Lady posted about this beautiful piece she found on sale at ZGallerie.  Unfortunately, it cracked on the road trip bringing it home. But that won't stop her, she glued it back together and turned the cracked part around. I love it!  I am trying to figure out the color, maybe a white lacquer.

I found this tray for $1.00 at a garage sale.  I love the detailing on the corners of the tray.

My inspiration for this tray comes from Everything LEB. I am not sure that I have the patience or talent to do anything near as beautiful as this.  But I will try!  I may go with a black and white theme for my new office.  I am thinking of leaving the brass detailing visible.

DIY: Tissue Paper Ornament

I had this little bag of tissue paper squares that I picked up in a garage sale and this Styrofoam ball from my love birds project.  I love the colors of the tissue paper.  

First step, wrinkle the tissue paper in small balls/puffs.

 Second step, attach the balls/puffs to the ball with hot glue. 

 Cut a ribbon to size and glue the tip at any point in the ball.  I also used two safety pins for added security.

And here it is. The colors are fun and really cute, even though they don't match any of my other decorations.  My goal is to fill this stand with handmade ornaments.  Oh yeah, I have to paint the stand too. 

Here's a little sneak peak at something I'm working on. Hopefully, I will have this project done by tomorrow.

Week-End Finds

I've had some great finds this past week. My mom and I spent Sunday going to garage sales and thrift stores. We had a great time.  I'm finding a lot of accessories and not any big pieces. Our closest Salvation Army has been closed for a couple of months for a complete renovation, which was desperately needed, however, they are the only thrift store in our area that carries furniture.  So here are my finds-

I know this is terrible, but I am having visions of taking off the hanging votives and replacing it with handmade ornaments.  Let's see what I can come up with.

 This cute little elephant was $1.00 at a garage sale.

 Wire basket for my office was $.75 at Goodwill

I thought this little container was perfect to hold odds and ends in my office, $3.00 at Goodwill

I got both these frames for $1.00.  One of them had some damage, but nothing that a little cardboard and hot glue couldn't fix. I am thinking for my gallery wall in my office.  I'm thinking black?

Week-End Finds

A couple of years ago, my mom, sisters, and I would stop at a garage sale on a Saturday morning on the way to the mall.  We always had so much fun doing it, that we started planning our Saturday mornings around it.  First stop, Cuban bakery for some 'pastelitos' pastries and then a morning of garage sales. 

Thrift stores were really not a place I ever frequented, unless looking for a Halloween costume years ago.  When I first discovered design/decorating blogs, I realized the things that people were finding at thrift stores were pretty amazing.  So I decided to go find myself an owl and was hooked.  I find myself leaving work and making a little stop on my way home.  If my husband is at a game on a Sunday, I may take a little trip.  I have even gotten my sisters involved.  On Friday, after work, we took a trip to the Faith Farm Thrift Store big sale event.  We had my niece and nephew in tow and ended up being out until 10:00 p.m.  Of course, we made a stop for dinner on the way home. 

I've decided to do a weekly recap on Mondays of all the things I find throughout the week.  Here are my finds for the week.

This little footstool is so cute.  It cost me a whole $3.00.  Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet, maybe just clean it up and stain the legs, or reupholster it.  I have to think about this one.

This is definitely not the prettiest of finds, but a very practical one. It's a standing cooler, so our party guests don't have to bend down to get a beer, it even has an opener on the side.  It was $5.00 at a garage sale.  I plan to spray paint this beauty. 

This lamp was my last post.  I found it for $8.00 at Goodwill.  I spray painted it white the same day I brought it home.  I'm loving it for my new office.

Red Chairs, my inspiration

A couple of years ago, my husband found these chairs at a garage sale.  I loved the chair, the upholstery, not so much. 

We lived with them, as is, dreading the cost of upholstery.  I added some West Elm pillows found on clearance and a throw from Ikea.  I also added some punches of red around the room hoping to incorporate the chairs.  It worked for the time, but the novelty was wearing away.  Reading all these beautiful blogs and seeing these amazing homes, I felt the need for change in my house.  My family room was one big, beige room with red chairs. 

So I found this beautiful, grey linen-like upholstery fabric at a local fabric store and started stripping, sanding, and staining the chairs.



They have become the starting off point for a family room redo. I can't wait!
