Mirror, Mirror

A couple of weeks back, I stopped at Goodwill while running errands. I found this lovely gold mirror for $15.00.   I found it to be kind of on the pricey side for Goodwill, but whatever, I loved it.  I've been looking for something like this to add to our very modern dining room.  An old man in line, obviously a thrift store connoisseur, told me I was spending way too much on the mirror and that "it's not worth that". I just smiled and handed over my money.
I gave it a coat of Rustoleum spray paint for plastic.  Did I mention it's a plastic material.  Cute, huh?
Well, so this past weekend I head out to the Salvation Army with my mom and guess what I find...another lovely gold plastic mirror.  This one is much more detailed and just a bit wider than the first one.  I jumped on it and its $6.99 price tag.  I guess I did overpay at Goodwill.
I'm trying to decide which one I'm going to keep.  The busier and bigger one or the more subtle and smaller one.  The busier one seems to be winning.  My sister will be getting the other mirror for the gallery wall in her room. I've been on a major painting, fixing, and staining push for her apartment.  My house was looking pretty hoarderish with all her stuff crowding it up. I spent the last 3 days painting and painting, my whole body hurts.  What do you think?

I like the second mirror. I don't care for the little line detail thingy ON the mirror on the first mirror. Why can't I find things that that in my GW? I have a mirror wall like that, and cannot find those anywhere. Had to order most of these on Ebay.

The new look mirror is impressive. The color works so well and the project seems so easy. Great job!

PJ @ Planned in Pencil 6/30/2011

oh my goodness! you did find two beauties! LOL. How funny that we both found such amazing mirrors. I'm going with the old guy, 15.00 was a bit steep, my last mirror at Goodwill was 6.99 as well.

The Scott's Crib 6/30/2011

That mirror is absolutely gorgeous!!! Great find...and yes GW was tripping with that price...

Cindy @ Cinsarah 6/30/2011

Love the mirror! I should buy something like that for my dinning room! thanks for the inspiration! :)

Desiree 6/30/2011

What a great find! I love them both. GW has gotten very pricey with their stuff. But I still shop there!

Lesley 6/30/2011

Why do you have to choose? They are both amazing.

Kristin Miracle Lewis @ west on cole 6/30/2011

Awesome find! Love thrifting!! I love the first one because of the elegant simplicity but then again I think black and white are colors!

Camilla 6/30/2011

I'm SOOOO jealous you found this...I have been on the hunt for a scroll-y mirror like this! It is so awesome! Great find.

Jenn 6/30/2011

i love both! i think the guy told you you were over paying so you would put it back and HE would snatch it up!!

Ali Richardson 6/30/2011

I like the bigger one! If you're gonna go, go BIG! That's my motto :)

Sam | Away She Went 6/30/2011

I don't think $15 is too much. I paid that for a similar mirror a couple months ago. I think $6.99 is just an extra awesome deal.

I love them both! What great finds!

Kiersten @ Oh My Veggies 6/30/2011

I love them both, but maybe the second one a wee bit better. They look SO much better white--I want one too!

Anne Tussing 6/30/2011

Great job! Love the mirrors! The price on both of them, in the end, is great!!

Something Nice and Pretty 6/30/2011

I have the same mirror, but without looking I don't know which one of yours it is:) I found mine at GW but only paid $5.99 also painted white!

Rosemary@villabarnes 6/30/2011

I like the more ornate second one. I like the price better too.lol

Great job transforming those mirrors! I think you can't go wrong with either of them and we so appreciate you sharing their makeovers with us at Inspiration Friday this week!

I bought the exact same mirror as your 1st one at my Salvation Army here and paid $5.99(see it here: http://handbagsnpigtails.blogspot.com/2010/05/my-6-ikea-look-like-mirror.html)
I painted it black and then started seeing them all over the blogworld. They're similar to an empty $25 frame Ikea sells too. Great finds!

Oh, as soon as I saw that I knew it was going to be really pretty! I love it and love it where you have it hanging. So pretty. :)

melanie 7/01/2011

i love it j! great ideas!

Suzanne@Meridian Road 7/01/2011

They're both great! Either way, your sister is getting a deal!

Erin @ His and Hers 7/01/2011

I just bought that same mirror (the 2nd one) at a yard sale, and I also spray painted it white! Haven't decided what I'm doing with it yet, though. It's nice of you to help your sister out. :)

And I don't actually think $15 is too much considering a similar mirror brand new would cost WAY more than that. Good for you for not listening to the old man :)

Melissa@TheHappierHomemaker 7/01/2011

I love them both. Did you take the mirror off to spray paint the first one? I found a mirror with similar overlap of the frame onto the mirror part and I can't remove the mirror to spray paint it so it is awaiting hand-painting (and its going to be waiting a while!)

Vivian 7/01/2011

ah. i love this! looks like that gorgeous mirror that gets broken from 'he's just not that into you' (the movie). I've been looking for one of these everywhere! great find. :)

I think they both look fantastic! Think I'll be heading to the Salvation Army store soon... :0)

Melissa and Scott 7/01/2011

I recently picked up one of these beauties at GW and I painted it white and made it a chalkboard. Seeing yours all fresh and mirror-ish kinda make me wish I would've kept mine a mirror.

Miss Charming 7/02/2011

Love both of these mirrors. (I agree with Jenn-The old man was probably hoping you would put the mirror back so he could buy it.) The price may have been a little high for Goodwill but your mirror looks brand new and a new mirror would have been much more than that. My attitude is that if you're getting great deals all the time for just a few dollars, then it's okay to pay a little more for something you really love. Great job!

Carol, The Answer Is Chocolate 7/02/2011

I love both mirrors. I wonder if GW has clued into us bloggers transforming their stuff and raised their prices! I though things were higher last time I went there. But still FAR less than PB or Ballard!

Joselyn@The DIY Spot 7/02/2011

Stopping by from FJI! Love both of them! Your such a nice sis to share your great finds. Hope you will stop by and enter my summer giveaway.

Great eye and they look great white. Since you are getting lucky with these finds, what if you found a third one... and made a wall grouping?

Unknown 7/04/2011

Love the mirror! I had one like this in my To Do Projects, but it didn't survive our last few moves. I'll have to look for another one.

Susan 7/04/2011

I love the mirror. I would keep the larger more ornate one!

Beverly@southernhomesweethome 7/04/2011

Over from Coastal Charm. Love the mirror, the paint job is great!

Dana from Our Life's Legacy 7/04/2011

Saw your post on DIY Show-Off. Don't you feel like some employees at Goodwill have caught on to what items we bloggers are drooling over? I keep finding thigs that are WAY over-priced for Goodwill and think they're on to us...

Mirrors look great! Go with the chunkier one :)

Beth 7/05/2011

Found your link at Funky Junk, and yes, the GW, SA & Habitat ReStores are finding out that this stuff sells & so their prices have really jacked up!

I found a mirror very close to your smaller one at a garage sale last summer for $3 & it's now hot pink in my daughter's room.

As far as which one to keep, I think I would opt for the larger one too.

I love how it blends. I would love it if you would link up to my Tuesday Confessional link party going on now: http://www.craftyconfessions.com/2011/07/tuesday-confessional-link-up-2.html. I hope to see you soon!

So pretty! I've been looking for something similar, but with no luck. Great finds.

gail@My Repurposed Life 7/06/2011

Your mirror turned out beautifully! $15 is a bit pricey for goodwill (I think too)

Maggie Lamarre 7/06/2011

I would have paid that price as well, this size at HL runs around 39.99-59.99.

Don't forget to add it to our weekly party for our readers to discover.

Jody 7/07/2011

Love it! I just found two quite similar ornate mirrors at a yard sale. Now if I could only decide on a spray paint color...

minna k.s. 7/07/2011

I love them both! Gorgeous!
This might be a dumb question (I've never spray-painted before) - do you have to cover/tape the mirror off, so the paint doesn't get on the mirror part? minnaks at gmail dot com :)

Mary @ Redo 101 7/07/2011

Good job on finding the mirrors! I used to have one like them, had it for years, then got rid of it - now I could kick myself :) Love the paint you did, they look fantastic!

The Revamped Soul 7/07/2011

I love the second mirror, it's adorable and you did a great job painting it.

Carolyn 7/10/2011

I think you did great with both mirrors, and both will look nice hung. You've done a great job fixing them up.

Karima 7/13/2011

Those are Home Interiors mirrors (almost vintage! 1980s). I don't think you over paid considering what they are going for on Etsy and Ebay. They look great!
