Wall Treatments - Sister Files

I hope you had a great long weekend.  We had a nice and relaxing one, which we needed.  I'm finally going to my sister's apartment this afternoon to get some before pictures of her place.  The reupholsterer has finished the pieces we sent him and I am ecstatic.  I think this is finally coming together.  We are thinking of a wall paper or a stencil treatment for the main wall of her apartment.  Here are some ideas.  Obviously, painting our own wallpaper will be the cheaper alternative.  But oh so much work.

The Brocade Home Cross Flocked Foil in champagne is the favorite so far.  We requested a sample of this one.  We're hoping that the champagne leans towards the pink/coral side.

The Brocade Home Gothic Foil is beautiful.  We are waiting for a sample of this one too.
The painted wallpaper by Jones Design Company is just perfect. I'm a bit worried about the stenciling.  I am somewhat impulsive and just think that I/we will make a mess.

Now, if Not Just a Housewife did this stenciled ceiling, a wall can't be that bad.  This is gorgeous.  I love the idea of picking whatever colors we want.
Have you stenciled a wall before?  Am I setting myself up for disaster?

Have a Great Long Weekend

I'd love to be doing something like this, this long weekend.
Via We Heart It
Instead, I'll be trying to convince my hubby that he likes DIY projects as much as I do.  Our entrance walkway is in serious disrepair...like fall and sue me disrepair.  We are in desperate need for some curb appeal, but that would be after the death risk walkway gets fixed.
Maybe I can link up my sign to some Linky Parties?

Awesome DIY by Little Green Notebook

Have you all had the chance to see this DIY Sputnik Chandelier by Little Green Notebook.  She used the Ikea Maskros

and turned it into this beauty...
Can you believe that? I'm totally loving this entire room.  The table is beautiful and huge...and that gallery wall is perfect.

Versatile Blogger Award...Do I deserve it?

I am so thankful that I've been given
Unfortunately, I couldn't get my thoughts together to respond and come up with my 'list'.  So I've been letting my little post-it note with all my nominators sit on my desk.  My friends, finally, I am responding!!! Yay, and thank you so much for nominating me.  So let's hope I get this right.....My warmest and sincerest thanks to

So 7 things about me:

1)  I am starting a gluten free diet today.  Ugh. Wish me luck.  I found out last week that I carry the gene for Celiac Disease.
2)  Work almost got the best of me this year.  I've been dealing with a horrific fatal crisis situation at school.  Not typically the kind of thing I deal with.
3)  It seems like I'm super organized, but I have secret messes.
4)  I'm super forgetful these days.  I think it's stress related.
5)  I wish I had studied interior design and not School Psychology..
6)  I'm starting to tell my real life friends about my blog and they've all been super excited and supportive.
7)  Talking about secret messes...I think taking so long to respond to this award proves that. :)

Again, thank you so much for nominating me.  If I forgot you, please, please remind me.  Remember, the forgetfulness thing.

Friends Making Friends or Mirrors

I've gotten the sweetest emails from readers who have taken on their own sunburst wood shims mirror.  It's really such an easy, inexpensive project that makes a statement.  Twenty-Six To Life posted about hers yesterday.  I love the symmetry of this one and it looks incredible in the room.
Michell over at Girl in Air posted this one last week.  I love the barn wood feel of this one.
Just to remind you, here's mine.
I love how they've all come out and how everyone puts their own touch to it.

Two non blog writing friends have also made their own versions. I'm going to be posting pictures of those soon.  Thank you all for reading and for sharing your amazing projects with me.  This blog brings me such happiness.

Week-End Finds

My mom and I spent Sunday morning visiting garage sales. I think I had a pretty good morning. I've been searching for pieces for my sister's apartment and I found this chandelier for $5.  I'm thinking of converting it like I did my office chandelier.

This table was also $5.00.  It will definitely get some kind of paint treatment and may be a nice addition to my sister's place.
I need to text her to check out my post today, so she can see what's going in her apartment.  It must be nice to have a personal shopper :)

Painting Fabric

One of my favorite daily reads, The Mustard Ceiling, has totally outdone herself.  I've been seeing painted fabric these days and I have to say I'm intrigued.  Then this happens.
 Really????
Elizabeth made her own ikat stencil and painted it.  Just gorgeous.

I had already been loving these curtains and  the new chair fabric is perfect.
This color makes me want to go get a manicure and pedicure to match.  So cute and Elizabeth you are awesome!

Kitchen Rug Ideas

I'm loving these rugs from Huset.  I first saw them on My Adventure is Your Advantage and fell in love.  If you haven't been to her blog, check it out. It's chock full of amazing finds.  I can add them all to my Pinterest boards, seriously. Well, back to the rugs, I'm thinking as a runner in front of my sink and dishwasher. I've never had a rug in my kitchen before, mostly because I haven't found the right one.  I realized when writing this post that I haven't posted pictures of my kitchen yet, I'll work on that.

Love! This rug might be it!  Now, which color?  Is it OK to spend $200 on a kitchen rug?  I'm justifying that I've never purchased one before, so this will make up for the last 6-7 years without one.

Michael's Extraveganza

Michael's is my go to place for all craft and DIY supplies. Luckily, I have 3 of them within 5 miles of me. Most projects start with a trip there. My wreaths, sunburst mirror, wall art, and frames...all

Michaels

I usually walk the aisles looking for ideas and inspiration.  I go in for something and come out with a bag full of projects.  I hadn't ever really checked out their website and I was excited to see a whole bunch of project ideas.  I'm hooked.  This is a super cute idea that would be awesome for a little girl's party. I can just imagine the variations of this using their beautiful paper.

Not only do they have everything craft and DIY, they have house decor and framing. I had our wedding invitation framed as a gift for my husband on our wedding day almost 7 years ago.  My mom, 3 sisters, and I took a cake decorating class a few years ago and we had a blast.  I haven't practiced my rose making skills, but I'm sure it's like riding a bike. :)  I can keep going and going about my love for this store.

My friends, Michael's is having an amazing ad campaign and they are offering 40% off a regular priced item. Just click on the coupon below or in my sidebar and get yours. You can click as often as you like.

Wood Shims Wall Art

I've been oohing and aahing over this image for a couple of months now.  When my sister first decided that she wanted my help to completely redo her apartment, I sent her this image.  That wall sculpture is amazing.  My little DIY brain started working and scheming as to how I could make something similar.  There is no way that I could find gold metal pieces and weld them together.  I'm a glue gun kind of girl.

Decorpad
I thought of using the same concept as my sunburst mirror, wood shims, paint, some wreaths from Michael's,and my glue gun.
I painted them using Folk Art Pure Gold acrylic paint from Michael's.
I bought two wreaths, also from Michael's.  An 18 inch and a 12 inch one.  I off centered them.
I glued the shims spaced apart.   As I went around the wreath, I started placing them further in.
As I got to the "short" side, I actually cut them.
I just filled in the spaces with shims.
After I glued them all on, it sat in my family room for about a week.  I wasn't loving the center of it.
I asked my mom (the art teacher), if she had something I could use.  I was thinking maybe large macrame beads or something.  She happened to have a box full of wooden pieces.  All different shapes and sizes.  I picked varying sizes of what you see below.
I randomly glued them on. I glued them off the the side, where the shims meet in the (off) middle.
Here it is with the wooden things painted the same gold.  At this point, I still needed to add some shims to the right to continue the uneven look.
Here it is! I hung up in my house to take the picture.
It's a loose interpretation of my inspiration, but I'm kind of liking it.  It feels like a modern flower.  If my sister likes it, it will be hung in her 'new' dining room.
Cost of project:
Wood shims $10
All other supplies $10 at Michael's using 40% coupons
Total cost about $20
What do you think?

Week-End Finds

Remember what my family room looked like.  Well, here it is today.  I'm in the midst of a million projects.  Mostly, for my sisters apartment.  We've been going over ideas, purchasing furniture and fabric, and hadn't really done much with it.  So, I started painting and working this weekend.
Here's a sunburst/sculpture that I'm working on...or trying to figure out what I want to do with it.  Hopefully, I can get this finished up this week.
I posted about this table that I found on the side of the road a couple of months ago.  I had given it a coat of white primer and kind of forgot about it.
A couple of weeks ago, while out thrifting for my sisters apartment, I found a marble top.  I bought it without measuring.  At $10.00, I figured, I'd find something to do with it, if it didn't work.  I spray painted the base yellow. The top is not attached to the base, but I wanted you all to get a look at it.
I found this ugly tile looking thing at Goodwill on Friday.  I already gave it a coat of turquoise spray paint (you can see it in the first picture).  I'm still figuring out what else to do with it.
This mirror was $1.49 at the Salvation Army.  I'm thinking for my sister's gallery wall.  Those plastic sunflowers will be the first things removed.
Do you find yourself knee deep in a bunch of projects?

South Beach Clubs and Wallpaper

Although we live about 20 minutes from South Beach, we don't head out as often as we should.  It's funny, while I'm out at a club, guess what I'm looking at.  Yea, I'm having a good time, drinking champagne, dancing, and looking at wallpaper and chandeliers.  Kind of weird, I know.  Let me explain, this week was my baby sister's 29th birthday.  She's celebrated every night since Wednesday.  She's still in her 20's, she can handle it.  I, on the other hand, thanks to getting in at 5:30 a.m. last night, will be recovering for 3 more days.  Hence, we don't do this often.  We headed out to the Louis Bar at the Gansevoort at about midnight last night.  Here are some pictures I found on the sight of Francois Frossard, the designer of the club.
"Louis Bar-Lounge at the Gansevoort Hotel, Miami Beach – inspired by a royal Parisian palace, Louis features an antique French d├ęcor modernized with brilliant colors and updated accents. Portraits of French kings adorn the different patterned- walls of fleur de lis, regal stripes and leopard prints. Vintage crystal lighting fixtures are paired with modern lighting fixtures and Louis XV chairs, French throne-style period furniture, inlaid armoires and gilded consoles were designed by Francois Frossard."

I would love to see how these designers come up with these ideas.  We had a blast and the music was great. As for me, I'm gonna go lay on the couch.  Happy Sunday.

Pretty Dining Rooms

Sandelsgatan via A Merry Mishap
What beautiful spaces. I'm wanting to do something to my dining room.  Maybe, I'll recover my chairs.
